Why Fast Access to Bulk Water Supplies Saves Lives in Disasters
When disaster strikes, and it inevitably does, the first thing responders must establish is the basic needs of those affected, including sanitation, food, power and fuel, shelter, and, of course, clean water.
Clean water is also one of the most challenging resources to secure in the first critical hours and days of a disaster response. For natural disaster response, bulk water delivery is a lifesaving measure before a reliable water supply can be re-established.
Emergency bulk water is delivered in a few different ways:
- Water tankers
- Bulk bottled water
- Palletized gallon jugs

There is no “right way” to meet water needs; until services are restored, making drinking water available is vital for disaster response's first critical hours and days. Bulk water delivery is a lifesaving measure for natural disaster response.
Here’s how Greenwood Aerospace provides emergency delivery of bulk emergency water.
The Importance of Bulk Bottled Water Delivery in Emergencies
The human body requires approximately 9-13 cups of fresh, clean drinking water per day to stay healthy, which increases significantly depending on the temperature and an individual’s activity level.
If the emergency occurs in a hot climate during hot weather, people tend to consume more water. If they are sorting through rubble and looking for survivors, their water needs are higher than when they are sedentary.
However, on average, most people require at least one gallon of clean water daily, so disaster relief services must account for this volume of bulk water for natural disaster relief.
Benefits of Bulk Bottled Water Delivery
It’s not merely a benefit of bulk water delivery; it is a necessity for sustaining life after a natural disaster. Bulk water delivery, or emergency bulk water delivery, typically involves delivering potable water in large volumes using water tankers. But water tankers are not always a viable option in all emergencies.
Water delivery to disaster areas often requires accessing areas only accessible by off-road vehicles, or, in the case of hurricanes and major flooding, by boat.
It is not practical to take water tankers into staging areas and then offload water into tanks or buckets to haul on boats or UTVs. For one thing, that water will no longer be sealed and is therefore prone to contamination. Plus, it just isn’t all that practical.
These are the reasons why Greenwood Aerospace is partnering with a local company to provide bulk water delivery of fresh, bottled drinking water for emergency situations.
Of course, we won’t limit it to just disasters; we offer bottled water in 16.9oz bottles or one-gallon jugs, fully palletized, sold, and shipped from Northern Oklahoma by the truckload, with quantities of 20 and 29 pallets, respectively. These are great for not only disaster response, but also for major military musters, deployments, or field exercises.
Disaster Relief Services
How many gallons do people need in disaster relief services? The water supply demands are composed of numerous factors. How many people are in the affected area? What is the current water quality? Is the water system completely offline, or will it be back online soon?
A survey by professionals is one of the first things that must be done to establish a baseline understanding of the extent of damage.

What Is Meant by Bulk Water?
Alright, so we have covered how and why water is essential, but what even is bulk water? It is widely understood and accepted that bulk water refers to water delivered in a large quantity, typically in the form of a water tanker, which holds around ten thousand gallons, give or take.
This sounds like a lot, but a city of 100,000 needs at least ten of those trailers per day, as a bare minimum.
Water tankers are essential and very useful, but in a disaster, an ideal mix of emergency water is both water tankers and palletized bottled water. Bulk water from a tanker is useful for sanitary purposes, cooking, and other applications, but bottled water is the best solution for drinking water.
Is It Cheaper to Buy Water in Bulk?
Generally speaking, bulk water is the more cost-effective option. Also, it is the most efficient for large groups of people, which is typically the case for emergency water distribution. Not always, but usually.
What Is the Best Water for Emergency Preparedness?
This is a challenging question because there are numerous unknowns. For the very first initial response, though, bottled water is by far the quickest and easiest way to get purified drinking water delivered on site, or at least to a staging area.
And here’s the deal: there are very few consumer-grade trucks (1-ton and smaller) that can move bulk water from a water tanker. On the other hand, millions of 4x4 pickups and SUVs can transport either palletized or de-palletized water bottles and distribute them, even to some remote and challenging locations.
Greenwood Aerospace is not only your trusted aerospace partner, but we also procure and distribute clean, safe drinking water bottles by the truckload to anywhere in the continental United States (CONUS) with affordable and reliable delivery schedules.
Additionally, this will be fresh water, not water that has been stored in a warehouse for an unknown period. Our supplier pulls it straight out of circulation for our orders, not some dusty warehouse waiting for an emergency.
