The U.S. Marine Corps operates a Super King Air fleet designated the UC-12. The original order of UC-12s was designated the Bravo (UC-12B), and 66 were delivered. These aircraft were based on the King Air A200C, which was powered by the PT6A-38 turboprop engines, producing 750 shp per engine. Later versions of the A200-series are still in use, which is the UC-12F/M models. These have been re-engined with the PT6A-42 engines, producing 850 shp per side.
The current iteration of the UC-12 is the Whiskey model. The UC-12W is not an A200-series King Air; the Whiskey is a King Air 350, like the MC-12 Liberty. The King Air 350 offers a stretched fuselage over the A200-series, with additional seats and added range over the smaller BE20s. Also, the UC-12W is equipped with a pallet-sized cargo door in conjunction with the standard passenger/crew entry door. The UC-12, regardless of model, has a robust landing gear and was designed from the beginning for use in austere environments, short fields, and unimproved runways. It is the perfect non-tactical utility aircraft for many mission profiles.
