The borders of the United States stretch thousands of miles. It is too much for ground observation, and rotary-wing aircraft need more endurance and altitude to effectively survey the endless miles of borders. To increase aerial surveillance in these remote areas, the CBP maintains a fleet of Beechcraft King Air 200 twin turboprops to monitor the borders in both daytime and night. They also operate some C-12C aircraft, which are a model of the C-12 Huron, a commercial off-the-shelf variant of the Beechcraft King Air 200, which has been re-engined with PT6A-41 to produce 850 shp per side. Each aircraft in the CBP fleet is equipped with the MX-15 electro-optical/infrared system to detect any infrared radiation produced by warmer objects, namely people. The infrared system gives them ‘eyes’ in all weather conditions to direct rotary-winged and ground assets to the location. Some of the CBP King Air fleet is getting a little older; C-12Cs were modified C-12As, making them some of the oldest Hurons in the fleet before they were handed off to the CBP. The King Air is a tough and sturdy platform, but long hours of flying in the high desert will take its toll on an aircraft. A reliable supply chain is vital to keep these aircraft in the air so they can interdict, move passengers, or provide eyes in the sky in a moment’s notice.
The best hedge of defense against unplanned delays from the aircraft comes in a readily available supply of parts so that you can get them when you need them. Instead of wasting your time sourcing the parts and jumping through hoops to get it, let Greenwood Aerospace take care of it.
